Abortion care has always been difficult for people to access in Louisiana due to regressive state and federal laws that prohibit insurance coverage.

In September, the threat to the three remaining abortion clinics became more imminent when the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Louisiana law already deemed unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court. For now, Roe v. Wade still guarantees the right to safe, legal abortion care but, in Louisiana, where 95 percent of parishes are without an abortion provider, we know we have to take care of each other.

When it comes to accessing abortion care,
women often rely on their community for support.

Comprised of community volunteers and supporters, abortion funds across the country provide compassionate care and critical resources. Here in Louisiana, since 2012 the New Orleans Abortion Fund has had a major impact.
